It was born on the day of the annular eclipse on October 14, 2023, in the Caribbean as an initiative that accompanies, provides a framework, and nurtures citizen science for the Community Diving Center Ambassadors of the Sea and other initiatives that seek to contribute to the knowledge, care, and relationship of our coastal communities with the sea.

Our origin

To be born with the eclipse is a manifestation of trust in the expressions of life that remind us that we need to regenerate our ways of being in the world, and that the paths for doing so lie in ancestral practices and knowledge, articulated with contemporary life and what other sciences can contribute in interaction with the ancestral.

The Institute of Citizen Science of the Southern Caribbean Sea (INMAR Caribbean) promotes citizen science, communication, and coastal marine arts in research, actions, and services to support symbiotic regeneration, natural and cultural gifts, and the ancestral heritage of marine waters and their coastal communities.

Developing Citizen Sciences of the Sea

All Classes

Residences for Coastal Marine Study and Artistic Expression

Residencies in research related to the sea, the coast, and their relationship with the mountains and rivers.

Interactive studies on Afro, Indigenous, and Mestizo citizenship

Visits and socio-eco-cultural tours to prominent areas in the research.

We came into this world to accompany initiatives related to citizen sciences of the sea, which is equivalent to acknowledging ourselves as the adult generation with the duty to act in connection, passing our legacies on to the new generations so that the continuity of the knowledge inherited from those who bequeathed us the territory and its cultures continues to create new alternatives that sustain the balances.

The place where we are located

Marine House in Cahuita and the entire Talamanca territory, a place for specialized residencies, events, workshops, and meetings in the development of INMAR Caribbean.

We move through Talamanca and the world, from a space designed to navigate with rootedness and shelter to develop a home.
